In the update last week, I told you I am ditching my scale for a month. It’s true. As of the first of July, I am asking my husband to hide the scale from me until the end of the month. Although I FINALLY had a breakthrough this week with weight loss, I still think it will be incredibly healthy to just walk away for a little bit.
My husband and I joined a gym on Sunday last week. Monday we went together. Tuesday, he didn’t go, and I almost didn’t go either. Then, in my head I remembered something key to this whole journey. I am not doing this for anyone BUT ME. I don’t NEED a babysitter and I don’t NEED someone else to go with me. Although, I have enjoyed working out with him, and with my friend Amanda, this is still all for me.
I want to break out and show what my workout looked like this week:
Sunday: Work Week Prep
Monday (5am): Treadmill 15 minutes. Charlie horse in my foot, so I had to stop a few times and stretch it out.
Tuesday (5am): Treadmill 20 minutes, but I did intervals at 2.0 MPH.
Thursday: Wing Chun Kung Fu class. This was one of the most fun classes we’ve had. We were doing kicking drills from different attack angles, so it was a punch, punch, kick exercise. Maybe 30 of those per side? Also, it’s official I have T-REX arms and legs. The joys of being short.
Friday: Took the dogs to the dog park (in another city, so please follow this link and vote for Bryant, AR every day! I’ll love you forever.) It was HOT outside. However, while our bigger dog loves to just run around and socialize, and little dog LOVES playing on the agility equipment. He’ll go through the tunnel, and adores the A Frame. My husband finally got him to go over a jump, so we set it up that he would jump, and then come to me and I would run along side the A frame with him, then we reversed it. I guess you could call that mini sprints? They were worn out and I was pretty sweaty when it was said and done, so everyone was happy!
Saturday: Heaven. We met our friend, Amanda, at the gym and FINALLY started my favorite part of the gym: weightlifting! I was able to workout leg pressing 200lbs out of the gate, so I am stoked about that. (it’s my favorite) I was shocked to lift over 50 lbs with my hamstrings as they are usually my weakest leg muscle. We did some arms and shoulder work too, just to get a feel for the equipment in the new gym. Loved every second of it. I also did 5 minutes of rowing.
Ok, I HATE running with a passion. I’ve mentioned it before, but running was always a punishment for us in school, and for me, I just haven’t broken through that mental block with it, and walking on a treadmill is pretty boring for me too. I’ve been working on finding new kinds of cardio to break up the boring parts of running and walking. I’m pretty sure rowing is going to be it.
After doing some research on it, I discovered rowing is considered cardio and strength training because every time you push back you’re essentially leg pressing your won body weight. (See above where I said I love to leg press! :D) According to several articles I found, rowing works your legs, arms, shoulders, and core all at the same time AND gives you a high calorie burn. What’s not to like except if you stop the machine punishes you by making it harder to start again! Ha! Incentives to push through the pain for sure!
I also worked incredibly hard at keeping track of my food intake this week. Aside from a day of complete and total stomach issues, my food was almost perfect all week long.
Then I stepped on the scale this morning and this is what I saw:
I lost 4.4 lbs in a week! WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!
It feels SO good to know that something I worked hard for, even though most of it was FUN and felt like playing, actually moved me closer to a goal. I’m proud of myself, and I’m proud of my husband for joining the gym with me. It’s been a great week, and it’s LONG overdue! YAY!
How are your goals coming along in this challenge? Who’s losing weight or meeting fitness goals? Who is STILL packing their lunch?by
